Communicate with your baby months before they can talk

With Signalong classes, little ones can start telling you what’s up from as young as 6 months. It’s brilliant because there are so many benefits about learning to sign with your baby:

  • Earlier communication
  • Reduced frustration
  • Supports understanding of language
  • Builds confidence

Want to know What Your Baby is Thinking?

Why wait for words when hands can talk? Signalong opens a gateway to early communication, allowing your child to express needs, thoughts and feelings long before they can verbalise them.

Hear from Our Happy Families

Our sessions have made a big difference, helping little ones start communicating sooner. But hey, don’t just listen to us—check out what parents have to say!

I've been coming to signing with my little boy for several years now. It's always been a really welcoming family-friendly environment. It feels safe. Steph is a really lovely person and has gone above and beyond for us, outside of signing as well because we have had her help privately with speech sessions. She treats you like a friend as well as a professional person helping you. We love signing, thank you Steph.

    - Jess

We love coming to signing. It's great fun and it's great to learn different ways to communicate and my daughter really enjoys doing the signing back to Steph.

    - Gemma

Thank you for everything as H loves your sessions and it really has taught us so much and been so invaluable in helping us communicate with H!

    - Kirsty

For my eldest son and now my youngest I can see before they start using their words they're understanding the signs that we're doing together. My favourite sign is to 'wait'. They both understood it really early on and it's been a really helpful tool. Steph has taught me more parenting tips than she knows and a lot of the ones like you see on YouTube very often and the ones I show my friends are the tips she's taught us to do with language development and the important things to look out for and what we say to our children. She's brilliant.

    - Claire

I highly recommend Steph. She was my daughter’s speech therapist throughout preschool and infants. She was always very friendly, helpful and informative

    - O

Both of my children have made substantial improvements in their speech since starting sessions with Steph. They look forward to every time they see her, as the practice involves lots of engaging games and fun activities. We are very lucky to have a such great speech therapist on the Island!

    - A

We cannot recommend Steph enough! Our 3 year old daughter started sessions with Steph and within 2 weeks people were able to understand her much more clearly. She is now happy to hold a conversation with an adult which she struggled with before. The sessions were fun and varied which kept her focused throughout.

Have a question?

We’ve added in some of our most asked questions below but if you have a question which isn’t listed then contact Steph on steph@littlepuffinsigning.co.uk or +44 7781 412 863

  • Where do your sessions take place?

All parents and child classes take place at Cobo Community Centre. We use a cosy room upstairs in the centre which has beautiful views over the Guet. Sessions also take place in preschools and nurseries around the island – these are directly commissioned and funded by the preschool or nursery setting.

  • How often do new sessions start?

There are 3 terms each year, and these run in blocks of 9 sessions. Terms are January-March, April – June and September – November. We also do some one-off holiday sessions for Easter and Christmas!

  • Do i need to book the full term?

We recommend booking the full term to help you build up your signing skills gradually over the term. We always start term by learning your baby’s name sign, and the signs often get more complex as we move through the term. Sessions are also small (maximum 9 children) so they do often book up!

  • What age can my baby start sessions?

We’ve had little ones as young as 2 weeks old starting sessions! The most important part is for the grown-ups to learn the signs to continue using outside of sessions. Your little one will start looking around and being a bit more awake from 3 months so they might engage more in sessions, but it’s never too early to start sessions!

  • Can i add my name to your waiting list?

Fill in the form below to add your email to the list. Current class attendees always get a chance to re-book first, but then booking is opened to the mailing list. If you’re keen to get signing it’s worth getting on the list.

Learn and Laugh with Little Puffin Signing

Little Puffin Signing sessions are designed and run by Steph, a qualified speech and language therapist. Every session is planned with stories, songs, and hands-on sensory activities, so each week there’s something new to look forward to. We focus on different signs through books, tunes, and activities that let us explore and practice in a relaxed way.

Our sessions are friendly and fun because we believe everyone learns more when they’re enjoying themselves. It’s not just about lessons; it’s about having a great time while picking up a new way to communicate. If you’re keen to try out Signalong and make some little puffin friends along the way, Little Puffin Signing is ready to welcome you.
